What does a professional organizer actually do during a session?

Every session looks a little different depending on where you are in your project, but here's the general shape: we show up, we work alongside you, and we leave your space more functional than we found it. That might mean sorting through a closet together, labeling bins, building a system for your mail, or tackling a room that's been on your list for years. We don't just tidy, we help you figure out what's working, what isn't, and how to set things up so they actually stay that way.

What areas of the home or life do you help organize?

We help with a wide range of spaces and systems, including whole-home organizing and decluttering, kitchens, closets, garages, and storage areas, paper management and filing systems, home offices and workspaces, downsizing and move-in unpacking, family systems for busy households, and digital organizing including email, digital files, and database building. We take a holistic approach to every project, which means one area often leads naturally to another. That's not a bad thing - it's usually where the biggest breakthroughs happen. If you're not sure whether your project fits, just reach out. We'll tell you honestly.

Do I need to clean or prepare before you arrive?

The short answer is no, and we'd actually prefer you didn't. A "before" is part of the process. We need to see how your space lives day-to-day so we can build systems that actually work for you. There is nothing in your home that will surprise or judge us.

Do I need to be present during sessions?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it's actually one of the most important parts of the process. You're the one who knows what matters to you, what you use, and what you don't. We'll guide the decision-making process, but the final calls have to be yours. Being present also helps you take real ownership of the systems we build together - they'll make more sense and last longer because you helped create them. That said, life happens. If you need to step away for a call or an errand, we can do some pre-sorting and prep work on our own until you're back.

How many sessions will I need and what will it cost?

We'll be upfront: this kind of work can take time. It didn't pile up in an afternoon, and a lasting solution may not happen in one either. Most of our clients work with us for at least five sessions. We guide the process and keep you focused, but you set the pace - we can work as fast or as thoughtfully as you need. Will you make me throw things away?

Never. Every decision about what stays and what goes is yours. Our job is to help you think it through, not to pressure you into letting go of anything you're not ready to part with. We're here to help you figure out what deserves to stay - and we'll ask you some good questions along the way. Sometimes those questions have a way of making decisions feel easier than you expected. We don't believe in arbitrary rules like "if you haven't used it in a year, out it goes." What we do believe in is helping you get clear on what you actually want your space to look like, and letting that guide the decisions. The goal is a space that works for you - and that starts with you feeling in control of the process.

What happens to the items we decide to let go of?

This is something we take seriously. We have trusted local contacts for donations, recycling, responsible disposal, even a consignment store owner or two , and we choose our partners carefully based on their mission and values. Whether it's clothing, electronics, furniture, or sentimental items that deserve a good home, we'll help you find the right destination. Whenever possible, we'll take donations with us at the end of a session so they're out of your space right away. Letting go is easier when you know things are going somewhere meaningful.

Do you work with people who have ADHD or other neurodivergent needs?

Absolutely. ADHD and neurodivergent clients often have a complicated relationship with organizing. Systems that work for most people simply don't work for them. We understand that traditional organizing advice often misses the mark for this reason, and we don't take a cookie-cutter approach. We're committed to ongoing education and have completed coursework on working with clients who have brain-based conditions. We take time to understand how you think, how you move through your space, and what's actually getting in the way. From there we build systems that work with your brain, not against it. No judgment, no one-size-fits-all solutions. If you've tried to get organized before and it hasn't stuck, there's likely a systems reason for that - not a you reason - and we can help.
