You've Spent a Lifetime Building This Home. Here's How to Let Go of It. I recently lost a client. He was in his 90s (technically from the Silent Generation, the one just before yours), had lived a full and wonderful life, and is dearly missed by his family and friends. We had worked together for about a year getting his home office and papers in order - a process he took seriously, even if his definition of "necessary" was generous. (He insisted on keeping photocopies of ever

Organizing doesn't look the same at 24 as it does at 74. The college hand-me-downs that worked in your first apartment won't serve you in a house full of three kids and twenty years of accumulated stuff. And the paper pile stressing out a busy parent is a completely different challenge from staring down a lifetime of belongings and wondering how to downsize your home after decades in the same place. Here's what we know after ten-plus years of helping people across Chicagoland

If your kitchen counters are covered in more paper than your inbox, or you’ve ever bought another jar of paprika because you couldn’t find the first one… welcome. You’re in the right place. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and also the place where clutter seems to multiply overnight. Between groceries, gadgets, kids’ snacks, and that random drawer of mystery items, it’s easy for things to spiral. Good news: organizing your kitchen doesn’t require a full renovation, a ra

Sentimental items hold so much meaning - they remind us of the people we love, big milestones, and sweet memories. But let’s be honest: they can also take up serious space and make your home feel less like a sanctuary and more like a storage locker. The good news? You can honor your memories while creating a calm and organized home. Here’s how. Making Hard Choices: What to Keep and Let Go Before you buy a single bin or a stack of cute scrapbooking paper, you need to sort thr

...and How to Find What Works for You If you’ve ever tried an organizing system you saw online and thought, “Why can’t I make this work?” , I want you to hear this clearly: There is no cookie-cutter organizing solution. A system only works if it matches how you actually live (and how your brain actually works). The goal isn’t a Pinterest-perfect home. The goal is a home that feels easier to be in. January is Get Organized Month, so consider this your permission slip to stop

If decluttering makes you feel weirdly emotional, you’re not alone. I see this with clients all the time: for a lot of people, letting go isn’t about the item—it’s about what the item represents. The money you spent. The version of yourself you hoped you’d be. The gift you feel obligated to keep. The fear that you’ll need it someday. Or (a big one) the memories attached to an object . January is Get Organized Month, so here’s your friendly reminder: you can make progress wit

January is Get Organized Month , so consider this your friendly warning: you’ll be getting a little extra organizing advice from me in the days and weeks to come 😉 If you’ve ever thought, “Why can’t my home stay organized?” —you’re not alone. Most people don’t have a “stuff problem.” They have a systems gap . And the good news is: you don’t need a perfect home or a weekend-long purge to feel a difference. You need a few simple, repeatable systems that work on your busiest d

The real goal is what organizing gives you—more peace, more enjoyment in your home and relationships, and less time feeling like your home is running you. When you get clear on your “why,” it becomes much easier to decide what to keep, what to let go of, and what systems will actually work for your real life.

As we wind down 2025, it’s tempting to measure the year by what didn’t get done: the closet that’s still bursting, the paper piles that multiplied, the pantry that never quite stayed “Pinterest perfect.” But organizing isn’t a pass/fail test—and progress doesn’t have to look dramatic to count. If you made even one small shift that reduced stress, saved time, or helped your home feel more supportive, that’s a win worth celebrating. And if 2025 didn’t go the way you hoped? No s

If you’re down to the wire on holiday gifts, you’re not alone. The good news: Chicago is packed with local businesses that make it easy to give something thoughtful without defaulting to more “stuff.” This year, consider gifts that create breathing room—time, calm, and support—especially for the people who already do so much. Here are a few last-minute holiday gift ideas from local Chicago companies that feel personal, practical, and genuinely appreciated. 1) Chicago-made co

(Spoiler: It’s not like on TV—and that’s a good thing.) If you’ve ever sworn your kitchen counters must be shrinking, cautiously opened your hall closet in fear that something might drop on your head, or wondered why you can never get out the door on time, you’ve probably considered hiring a professional organizer. If you're curious what it’s actually like to invite one of us into your home, you’re in the right place. Let’s pull back the curtain and talk about what really hap

You know that feeling when you crawl into bed, ready to call it a night, and suddenly remember there’s a mountain of dishes in the sink or your craft supplies scattered around like confetti? Here’s a gentle, judgment-free ritual I love (and preach, even if I don’t always practice): putting the house to bed. It’s not about perfection—it’s about giving yourself a little leg up for the morning. Why “Put the House to Bed”? Think of it as a gift to your future self . Waking up to

The holidays are right around the corner—which means your home is about to become a hub for laughter, leftovers, and (let’s be honest) a lot more shoes by the door. Whether you’re hosting a cozy dinner, a full house, or overnight guests, a little organizing now makes the season so much lighter, calmer, and more enjoyable. Here’s our ultimate guide to preparing your home for holiday guests—straight from our team of professional organizers—so you can focus on the fun (think: pi

When you open your closet, do you brace yourself and prepare for impact? If your closet is packed to the gills and feels more like an overflowing thrift shop than a calm boutique, you’re definitely not alone. I see this all the time - clients keeping every item they own jammed into one space, no matter the season. Heavy parka in July? Flip-flops in January? It’s more common than you’d think! But not desirable, despite our constantly shifting seasons in Chicago... The honest t

Heading off to college is such an exciting milestone—new classes, new friends, and for most students, the smallest room you’ve ever called home. Between the mini fridge, stacks of textbooks, and whatever your roommate is bringing, it can feel like you’re playing a game of Tetris with your belongings. But here’s the good news: with a few clever strategies, even the tiniest dorm can feel inviting, functional, and totally your own. Whether you’re packing for your first year or h
